Found an Animal?
Stay calm. Most wildlife does not need rescuing.
If you believe an animal is injured, orphaned, or in immediate danger, follow the steps below.
STEP 1: Do NOT give any food or water.
Feeding the wrong thing can cause aspiration or death.
Warmth is more important than food.
STEP 2: Keep the animal warm.
Place the animal in a small box lined with a towel or soft cloth.
Add gentle heat:
-
Heating pad on LOW under half the box
-
Warm (not hot) water bottle wrapped in cloth
Keep the animal:
-
In a dark, quiet space
-
Away from children and pets
STEP 3: Take a clear photo.
Before contacting us, take a clear photo if safe to do so.
This helps us determine species and next steps quickly.
STEP 4: Contact Us
Please send us an email or text message(preferred) with the following information:
-
Your Name, Location, and Contact Info
-
A clear photo of the animal if it is safe to do so.
-
A description of where/how the animal was found.
-
Is the animal warm or cold? What is the animal's overall condition? Any visible injuries? Approximate age?
-
The more information you remember, the better!
-
Can you arrange to transport the animal here? (South Hadley)
Note: We are completely volunteer-run and rely on donations and our own personal income to care for wildlife. Meaning, we are not able to answer the phone or email 24/7. Maybe someday :) We promise to be as responsive as we are physically able to be.
If this is an emergency, please visit MassWildlife's official web page to see if there is another licensed rehabber open, or one that is closer to you.
